Chance wrote a brief blog about these in 2011. He was writing about a pair that was presented & belonged to former Green Bay Packers offensive tackle, Steve Wright. Steve had given them to Grey Flannel Auctions to be auctioned off.
The tie pin is considered to be the press pin for that first Super Bowl. Whether the "sets" were only provided to the players, I can't seem to verify.
Grey Flannel Auctions ended up selling Steve's set for ,468.00.
Super rare and very hard to find a complete set such as this.
Chance Michaels description of the set:
"The two football-shaped cuff links measure ¾” x ½" and read "AFL vs. NFL 1ST WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 1966 LOS ANGELES COLISEUM" across the face. They feature casted images of the facade of the famous Los Angeles Coliseum. The back of the cuff links are stamped "LGB 1/10 10KGF". The interior bar of each cuff link is stamped "PAT 2544893" and "1/20-12KGF". Each cuff link weighs 5 grams and they are both in NRMT condition with light wear. The tie clasp features the same ¾" x ½" casted football that appears on the cuff links. It is attached to a 1½" tie clasp that is stamped "BALFOUR 1/20-12KGF" on back. The tie clasp weighs 8 grams and is in NRMT condition."
"The design is beautiful, with the Coliseum façade superimposed on the football. Although the game was widely known as the "Super Bowl" even before the opening kickoff, the NFL and AFL thought the nickname lacked the gravitas they required for the Championship game, and so the jewelry is saddled with the rather unfortunate and wordy description."

"I can see this having been worn in the press box, overlooking the Coliseum's field as the Packers and Chiefs battled it out for pro football's crown. I wasn't aware that these were ever given to players."
I came across the set I have listed here via a client of mine. Her husband was an avid sports memorabilia collector. He passed away a number of years ago. He frequented charity's and auctions all the time to procure sports related items.  After his passing, my client asked for my help to sell off his items. This cufflink collection is one of the items. Upon inspection and research I wondered to myself if this item I am selling is the same item that was sold through Grey Flannel auctions in 2011 and once belonged to Steve Wright. Since Steve's item was sold with an LOA I contacted my client to see if she had one on file from her husbands records. She could not locate the LOA.  I called Gray Flannel Auctions to get there thoughts. Since I don't have the LOA I can not claim that these belonged to Steve. However, I thought to contact Steve personally to get his thoughts.
So to find out as best I can, I wrote a letter to Steve Wright along with images of my item and sent it to the Green Bay Packer franchise. They told me over the phone they would forward my inquiry to Steve. Weeks went by. I was about to list the item when the phone rang and it was Steve Wright! I can't tell you how excited I was. I was a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers of the 1960's and early 1970's. We chatted for awhile and I told him what I have written above.
He, of course, could not verify or deny that the item above was his but did offer to provide me a letter which I have included in the photo section. So...I will leave it up to the buyer to decide for himself. I certainly can't claim that these belonged to Steve, but I sure couldn't pass up the opportunity to explore the possibility.
