Antique Japanese Ise Katagami Kimono Stencil Edo Era Small Motif brown A146
Description
Japanese Antique Katagami Kimono Stencil Katazome
Details
: In
late Edo period 1850, Japanese use Ise Katagami for dying fabrics called Katazome. This katagami has some small skewer-like design on it. These stencils are made from the bark of the mulberry tree and glue extracted from persimmon which makes the paper strong and water resistant. These beautiful Ise Katagami from the Ise area in central Japan have no silk lining, unlike most katagami have. The thickness of the katagami differs on how they use it. Thin katagami is usually used for fine designs and thicker ones used for bold patterns.
