Wonderful Dangle Pendant NECKLACE Miniature Apache BURDEN BASKET Mini tiny weave Indian
This necklace is comprised from squared beads that are a mix of silver, brass & copper.  necklace measures 15" plus a 3" extender & closes with a lobster clasp.  the basket measures or drops a total of 2 3/4" but the basket itself without counting the tassels measures 3/4"  -- it is outstanding.  little leather tassles drop from the basket with the tips being little metal cones.
The baskets were originally used in everyday life for gathering wild foods and harvesting crops like corn. Large burden baskets were also used for food storage-
Later Burden Baskets began to be made to symbolize carrying your burdens in this basket, thereby giving your burdens away. Burden Baskets were used for
utilitarian means but also as a Guardian of the homes
. Giving balance to the tribe as a whole &reminder of respecting their happiness& privacy
The tassels were often made from deer or cow skin, mainly for ceremonial / decorative uses. The theorie as to why the "tinkling" tin was placed on the tassels was to warn snakes away.
