. University of Georgia, Athens, GA, 1973. Hardcover. First printing. DJ. An edition of the previously uncollected and virtually unpublished papers of William Orrie Tuggle (1841-1885). A native of LaGrange, Georgia, Tuggle gained national prominence as an agent for the Creek and Yuchi Indian tribes by successfully steering their sizable claims on the United States government through Congress. During the period of these labors he travelled extensively through the new Indian Territory in Oklahoma and the surrounding area, carefully recording details about people, places, customs, and tales which he later developed in large part.from an anthropological standpoint Tuggle's most significant achievement is a collection of Indian myths which he recorded directly from the tales told him by chiefs such as Pleasant Porter and Sam Brown.  Laid in .. Maps of the "Towns of the Creek Nation" and "Creek Nation about 1898". Illustrated endpapers. 361 pgs. Book is very clean inside and out. DJ very good.
