    A very rare antique slavery Spanish colonial 'Free slave work contract' document
    "Contrato Esclavo liberto"
    from Arecibo, Puerto Rico.
    dated April 1873 / signed
    After slavery was abolished in Puerto Rico
    in March 1873 the government granted slaves
    the right to sign work 3 year
    contracts
    with their
    former owners where
    they promised to work
    exclusively for them from sunrise to sunset
    and
    the former slave owners guaranteed
    in exchange
    to feed them twice a day and compensate them for their work
    measures 8 3/4 by 12 1/2 inches
    in overall good condition, clean with the usual worm damage
